Cyprus leaders announce opening of Yesilirmak/Limnitis crossing
Nicosia, 26June 2009 -- Special Representative of the Secretary-General Tayé-Brook Zerihoun read out a statement following the meeting of the Cyprus leaders today announcing the opening of Yeşilırmak /Limnitis crossing and access to and from Erenköy /Kokkina.
The present report on the United Nations operation in Cyprus covers developments from 24 November 2008 to 10 May 2009 and brings up to date the record of activities carried out by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) pursuant to Security Council resolution 186 (1964) and subsequent Council resolutions, most recently resolution 1818 (2008). The report also elaborates on the activities of my Special Adviser for Cyprus in the context of my good-offices mission.

This graph shows the number of people crossing the UN-controlled buffer zone from north to south and vice-versa in the last three months. With the opening of Ledra Street on 3 April 2008, there are now six crossing points between the north and the south of the island. The first crossing points were opened in 2003.
